At VASS FoundationWe are committed to creating an inclusive digital ecosystem that guarantees equal access to technology for all people, regardless of their age, educational level or disability status. For this reason, we offer this specialised course in digital accessibility, designed to train people with disabilities and professionals from social organisations in the design and development of accessible digital products.  

Justification

An accessible website, platform or application is one that can be used by anyone, without exception. Accessibility is not only an ethical commitment, but also a legal requirement in the European Union, according to directives such as the European Accessibility Act, which will be binding from 2025. 

In addition to promoting inclusion and equity, accessible digital products help to remove technological barriers, facilitating access to information, products and services for all people. 

Course objectives: 

At the end of this training, participants will be able to: 

  • Understand the need, usefulness and responsibility associated with the design and development of accessible digital products. 
  • Acquire theoretical and practical knowledge to evaluate and apply accessibility in different technologies. 
  • Promote a culture of inclusive development that complies with current regulations and responds to today's social responsibility. 

Addressed to: 

This course is especially aimed at: 

  • Professionals with at least one year's experience in web and PPP design or development
  • Engineering students, training cycles or degrees that already have basic development and/or design competences. 
  • Front-end developers interested in implementing accessibility in their projects. 
  • User interface (UI) and user experience (UX) designers. 
  • Commercial Teams, Project Managers and Team Leaders who wish to be trained in the fundamentals of digital accessibility and its application in projects. 
  • Profiles of QA and programmers. 

Duration:    

The programme would consist of an estimated total of 74 hourswhich at a rate of 4 hours per week would be equivalent to a programme of 3 months duration.  

Because of its uniqueness, the programme could be optimised by modularising it, in parallel, so that it can enrich existing courses. Hence, next to each part we include in brackets profiles with specific interest in each one.  

Training content

The programme includes the following thematic blocks: 

  1. Introduction to accessibility (A11 and 101) and applicable legal regulations.
  1. Design of accessible applications: Premises, techniques and standards for the creation of inclusive interfaces.
  1. Development of accessible native Android and iOS APPs Accessible code construction and best practices.  
  1. Development of accessible mobile applications: Development methods and standards for accessible apps.
  1. Auditing accessibility: Protocols and tools for assessing compliance with standards in digital projects.

Modality and methodology  

  • Format: Two-hour synchronous classes, two sessions per week, (Tuesday and Thursday). 
  • Methodology: ON-LINE Theoretical presentations combined with practical exercises and group discussions. 
  • Additional material: Session notes with key concepts.
